Trends and Challenges of Technology-Enhanced Learning in Geotechnical Engineering Education

The integration of technology and new tools in engineering education has created opportunities for the advancement geotechnical (GEE). Technology-enhanced learning (TEL) been implemented GEE by many educators, its impacts have studied different researchers. This review paper presents a comprehensive analysis state-of-the-art implementation TEL based on published journal articles. study adopts systematic approach examining literature GEE, identifies emerging trends challenges, potential solutions, outlines research gaps recommendations. indicates that, over past couple decades, major included computer-based simulations computations, physical centrifuge modeling, virtual laboratory field experimentation, internet-based online resources, augmented reality. can support students effectively comprehending complex concepts augment their preparedness demands professional practice. Furthermore, with instructional design strategies involving problem-based learning, experiential collaborative critical thinking cultivation is recognized as favorable strategy. However, challenges such lack resources experience, optimization pedagogies, alignment course content, quantification TEL’s impact student experiences remain to be addressed continuing development this field. In addition, an outcome-based (OBE) theory-inspired quadruple framework proposed efficient GEE.
